A Decade of Walking Football on Silloth Green

Silloth’s Walking Football which meets every Monday between 1pm to 2pm by pitches next to the tennis courts is celebrating its 10th year and still going strong.
Alan Rainford, a community worker with the Methodist Church, started the original group along with George Denholm and former teacher Pam Blaylock way back in 2016.
Amazingly it survived the lockdown years and numbers soon gathered momentum on the return to normality.
Remarkably George, Malcolm Jones, Eddie Blackburn and Tim Barker were there at the beginning and a decade later are still regulars. Pam still keeps a watchful eye on her mobility scooter.
Peter Grant hands out the yellow and red cards and Norman and Maggie Martin provide a welcome cuppa and biscuits back at the Christ Church just after 2pm.
The man rarely seen in front of the camera, is the man behind the camera, historian author and photographer Trevor Grahamslaw.
He packs the hardest shot, between 1pm to 2pm, but saves his best shots for the camera.
George, formally of Barclays Bank keeps us all on our toes, and deserves great credit for his organisation skills, although modestly he says it’s a team effort.
Everyone is welcome to play – holiday makers, visitors and of course residents of Silloth.
